Answer to Question 1

ANS: F
When phytoplankton photosynthesize, they also respire. They use some of the oxygen and carbon
dioxide they produce. Normally, carbohydrate production exceeds consumption. Information can be
found in the section Production Equals Consumption at the Compensation Depth.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: T

top portion of the euphotic zone. Some Cyanobacteria can absorb blue light, allowing them to thrive at
deeper depths. Information can be found in the section Lack of Nutrients and Light Can Limit Primary
