Answer to Question 1

ANS: C
The operating costs of using tidal power are relatively low. The source of the power, the tides, is free
to use. There are no pollutants added to the atmosphere. It seems like the perfect solution to energy
deficiencies; but even if tidal stations were lined up around the world, it would not be enough.
Information can be found in the section Power Can Be Extracted from Tidal Motion

Answer to Question 2

ANS: D
Pytheas made the connection between the moon and the tides in 300 B.C. The full understanding did
not occur until Isaac Newton explained gravitation to the world. Information can be found in the
section Tides Are the Longest of All Ocean Waves.
