Countercurrents typically accompany equatorial currents. They flow on the surface in the opposite
direction of the main current. They can be quite large. Information can be found in the section Surface

La Nia events are characterized by strong currents, powerful upwelling, and stormy conditions. These
colder than normal events are the response to El Nio events. Information can be found in the section
