50 mg of benzil is 0.24 mmol (50 mg/210 mg/mmol) 0.50 equivalent of sodium borohydride is the minimum amount required to reduce benzil. Therefore, 0.50 x 0.24 mmol equals 0.12 mmol of sodium borohydride. 0.12 mmol x 37.8 mg/mmol equals 4.5 mg of sodium borohydride needed to reduce benzil.
