Answer to Question 1

A

Answer to Question 2

Both of these occur during the jury voir dire. Both sides are granted an unlimited number of challenges for cause. Such challenges include any reasonable demonstration of bias, and both sides can excuse potential jurors because of this. Peremptory challenges is the excusal of a potential jury member without needing an articulated reason so as long as it is not based on race. Peremptory challenges are limited, but the limitation numbers vary by state.
