In some circumstances when public safety is in jeopardy, interrogation is permissible without the Miranda warnings when a suspect is in custody. The Court also made it clear that the appropriate test for determining whether a threat to public safety exists is an objective oneit is based on what a reasonable person in the same circumstances would believe.
