Interculturalism has inspired many directors to freely incorporate elements from diverse cultures into their production concepts. For example, French director Ariane Mnouchkine has used acting styles, costumes, makeup, and musical instruments and rhythms inspired by Asian traditions. Ninagawa Yukio has done kabuki-esque versions of ancient Greek tragedies and Shakespeare.
