An absolute URL is used to link to any site that is outside of your SharePoint installation. You need to create a full URL with a path to the page or file that will open in the browser. A relative URL is used within the SharePoint site to move to a Web page or file. Relative URLs help you when you have to move the site to another Web server or on the same server.
