Answer to Question 1

Pastel colors were the most popular. Dark blue was very popular for a while. Typical colors were pale and grayish and variations of red from pale pink to brilliant red, or of blue from bluish silver to dark blue.
The most important fashion feature of the 1720s and 1730s was the advent of the contouche or sack dress. It developed out of deshabill (dressing gowns) and was originally dismissed as sloppy and too intimate. After the death of Louis XIV in 1715, however, there was no court anymore, and therefore no demand for the formal, stiff, and uncomfortable grand habit, so ladies got used to the ''sloppiness'' of the sack dress.
Female dress after the Revolution imitated the Greek chiton, a flowing sleeveless white robe. White cotton and linen were featured largely, sleeves were short, waists were high (just below the bust in fact) and clasped with a soft belt, ornaments were scarce and geometric: Simplicity was sought for. Shoes lost their high heels altogether and were laced.
