The American consumer is interested in both saving money on some occasions while seeking new and different experiences on other occasions.

Answer to Question 2

The experiential loop focuses on atmospherics to improve the experience to increase sales, whereas the productivity loop focuses on superior execution to lower prices to increase sales. Walmart and Target use the productivity loop, whereas Whole Foods and United use the experiential loop.
