Crisis oriented literature can be helpful in getting in children to work through their emotions. It is very important to listen to children and to speak carefully when discussing a problem. Most of the affective curriculum is based on spontaneous, unplanned events, the adults sensitivity to what children mean and what they feel, and the ability to respond in a sensitive manner.

ANSWER: Children raised under an inductive discipline approach such as the authoritative style tend to be more mature than children raised under other discipline styles. The children of inductive-style mothers exhibit the use of more positive strategies in resolving conflicts. Corporal or physical punishment offers no long-term solutions to behavior problems and results in more inappropriate behavior. In the long term, it correlates with delinquency, vandalism, and poor grades. The harsher the discipline at home, the more aggressive children are rated by their teachers. The less harsh forms of punishment (such as timeout or loss of privileges) are most effective when accompanied by an explanation (inductive method).
