ANSWER: Love and affection giving, early experiences, discipline, and teaching social skills and values are all critical areas that enter into affective development. Love is built on a foundation of acceptance and respect. Inner feelings are more important than outward behaviors. Once inner feelings have been established, observable expressions of love come spontaneously. Young children need outward expression of love such as pats.
