Communicating thoughts verbally, sustaining attention, remaining interested and curious about new activities, inhibiting impulses, following directions, taking turns, and being sensitive to others' feelings.

They include active child involvement, the teacher is enthusiastic and prepared, child ideas are accepted, the activities are developmentally appropriate, the teacher clarifies when necessary, the children are comfortable, familiar elements are included, novel and/or new items are included, the environment is relaxed, sharing occurs, outcomes are predictable, goals are clear to the teacher, group size and setting are appropriate, expectations of child behavior are clearly stated, eye contact is maintained, the teacher watches for feedback.
