What intellectual skills and language skills might children encounter when they dictate their ideas to adults to write down?

A teacher hangs up three paintings by famous artists. Her first-graders gather around the one with the most colors and ignore the other two. Based on this, she decides that her students:

If it is a story they are dictating, they

perhaps mentally evaluate adding features to entertain.
