A 19-year-old has a history of asthma. She began wheezing and having difficulty breathing, but does not have her prescribed inhaler with her. She is agitated and resists when you try to place an oxygen mask on her face. As you try to calm her down, you notice the wheezing has decreased and so has her respiratory effort, and she keeps trying to lie flat on her couch. You should first:
◦ administer oxygen by nasal cannula.
◦ notify the incoming EMS crew that the patient's condition is improving.
◦ Tell her that everything will be OK now that she has calmed down.
◦ ensure an open airway and assist her ventilations with a BVM.
