Answer to Question 1

The tics may be a symptom of Tourette's disease, the symptoms of which may resemble ADHD (or ADHD may be comorbid). Although there is some evidence that psychostimulants may worsen the tics or induce full-blown Tourette's symptoms, most of the recent research indicates that most individuals diagnosed with ADHD who exhibit comorbid tics do not experience tic worsening with psychostimulant treatment or in some cases show evidence of a reduction in tics. Other studies suggest that the benefits in reducing the symptoms of ADHD outweigh the potential for tic worsening.
