Airlines transport customers to hotels, gaming casinos, cruise lines, rental car companies, and the various tourist attractions so each of these sectors would be hurt if there were no airlines.

Alternating periods of economic growth and recession are an unavoidable consequence of free market economic systems where supply and demand forces are uncoordinated and may get out of balance resulting in too much or too little supply relative to demand.
