Automobiles triggered and stimulated production of petroleum, chemicals, glass, steel, and rubber. Culturally, the automobile facilitated the growth of suburbs and allowed some cities, like Los Angeles, to grow. Overall, good students will point out that the automobile helped to homogenize American culture by making the population more mobile.
