Answer 1

ANSWER: Americans received support from a number of sources, but the most obvious was from the French. French naval strength made the difference in the Battle of Yorktown. It is quite possible that Americans could have won the war, but without the decisive victory at Yorktown, the peace they negotiated might have looked very different.

Answer 2

ANSWER: Better students will see a mixture of results in each case. African Americans benefited from a trend toward emancipation in the North and private manumissions in the South. On the other hand, slavery was not abolished in the South. The ideology of republican motherhood provided women with a public role, albeit one that also reinforced their traditional role as subordinates. Indians lost a valuable British ally and clearly fared the worst of these three groups.

The dogs detected 54 of the 55 lung cancer patients as having cancer, detected 28 of the 31 breast cancer patients, and gave only three false-positive results (detecting cancer in people who didn't have it).
