Poverty has a significant, yet indirect, effect on children's adjustment, most likely because of its association with negative influencesparticula rly harsh, inconsistent parenting and elevated exposure to acute and chronic stressorsthat define the day-to-day experiences of children in poverty.

Answer to Question 2

To judge what is abnormal, we need to be sensitive to each child's stage of development and consider each child's unique methods of coping and way of compensating for difficulties.
