Answer to Question 1

Child complains of physical issues (real or perceived), attention is given by parents and medical community, reinforces child's belief that something is wrong, reinforces child's role as sick, and the cycle continues
Early intervention - once a chronic pattern is developed intervention is difficult so early intervention is most effective
Medical professionals should learn to detect a pattern of behaviors that would signal psychological rather than physiological distress; work with parents to attend to child without reinforcing sick or dependent behavior
Intervention  CBT, relaxation, behavioral techniques, etc.
