Answer to Question 1

Avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder  not eating enough for normal growth and development
Developmental course  typically children learn how to coordinate internal processes such as swallowing with relational processes (communication and reciprocity). By about 4-6 months of age, infants and parents have developed a pattern of positive interactions surrounding feeding. Patterns of picky eating are common and usually not a reason for concern.
Etiology  developmental delays (80 of children with developmental delays have feeding problems), temperament (reactivity, over or under arousal), parental mental health or eating issues
Assessment and diagnosis  information about both child and caregiver are gathered through interviews and observations
Intervention  focused on physiological, psychological, and environmental factors; three factors  nutritional monitoring, physiological and environmental changes, and behavioral techniques
