The trichromatic receptor theory explains how different color receptors in the eye combine to produce color vision. However, this theory does NOT explain:

◦ how color receptors respond differently to different colors.
◦ color vision.
◦ afterimages.
◦ how many color receptors the retina must utilize in order to produce color vision.
