Why would sand be deposited behind a small island to form a spit or tombolo?
◦ The tidal affects are trivial behind the island, so the sand is not swept away.
◦ Waves refract around the island and the wave energy is dissipated on the island, allowing quiescent water behind, and sand drift to accumulate behind the island.
◦ The onshore current from one direction piles up sand here.
◦ The island protects the coast from rip currents, preserving the sand.

There are major differences in the metabolism of morphine and the illegal drug heroin. Morphine mostly produces its CNS effects through m-receptors, and at k- and d-receptors. Heroin has a slight affinity for opiate receptors. Most of its actions are due to metabolism to active metabolites (6-acetylmorphine, morphine, and morphine-6-glucuronide).
