(2) MAO inhibitors like Nardil require a restricted diet because they can interact with certain food chemicals; they are also slow acting. (3) Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) like Prozac and Paxil have fewer side effects than other drugs used to treat depression. They are slow acting, safer in overdose, and expensive.
