John

John is an 18-year-old who has been a bit stressed thinking of his upcoming presentation, which he is expected to deliver later on this morning as a part of a group project in his Positive Psychology class. John didn't sleep well last night and this morning he has no interest in eating breakfast. Once John arrives at school, he feels his heart palpitating. During his presentation, someone in the audience made a joke in poor taste which John handled gracefully by laughing along, even though he was angry about the joke.

When John clenches his fists and then forces himself to chuckle at the "joke," which component of emotions is illustrated?

behavioural
cognitive
physiological
self-protective
