What is the relationship between stress and immune disorders?
◦ Stress causes lymphocytes to become active; people with an immune disorder already have active lymphocytes, so their protection from stress is greater.
◦ Stress causes white blood cells to increase; more white blood cells protect the body from foreign invaders, so stress makes the development of immune disorders less likely.
◦ Stress leads to immunosuppression; people with an immune disorder are therefore at greater risk when under stress.
◦ Stress causes the release of epinephrine, which in turn activates greater production of T cells; this sequence directly causes immune disorders.
