The major overriding goal of all psychiatric care is safety of the client, his or her family, and others in the community. Other goals of therapy are to alleviate symptoms and to modify the client's behavior so that he or she can meet life's demands and return to an optimum level of wellness. Medication administration and community services are an integral part of the care, but not the overriding goal.
