A. Remove client's dentures and other dental appliances to prevent dislodgement of dental structures during intubation phase.
B. Position tip of cannula for easy access in the client's mouth to drain oral secretions to reduce the risk of aspiration.
C. For upper GI procedures, assist client in maintaining left lateral Sims' position to allow for easy passage of upper or lower endoscope.
D. Instruct client not to eat or drink after the procedure until gag reflex returns, which is usually about 2 hours after the procedure.
