Answer to Question 1

The primary function of any lubricant is to prevent metal to metal contact of moving surfaces, whether they are sliding or rolling.

Answer to Question 2

Output work = Output force x Output distance
Output work = 500 lb x 4 ft
Output work = 2000 ft-lbs.

With no friction, Input work equals Output work, therefore:

Input force = Input work / Input distance
Input force = 2000 ft-lbs / 20 feet
Input force = 100 lbs force.

Answer to Question 3

Seesaw, wheelbarrow, and man's arm.

This is partially backed up by the fact that early grandfather clocks displayed IIII for the number 4 instead of IV. Early clockmakers apparently thought that the IIII balanced out the VIII (used for the number 8) on the clock face and that it just looked better.
