Japan's noh theatre is a highly stylized ritual form that uses poetic language, recurring images, word play, and historical and literary allusions, to meditate on metaphysical reality. Kygen, on the other hand, are colloquial, comic pieces performed between that take as their subject everyday conflicts and follies.
