Answer to Question 1

Wild rice is technically not a grain like other types of rice. Rather, it is a marsh grass that is native to the Great Lakes region of the United States. This is a traditional food that was harvested by native Indians living in that region. Wild rice is more nutritious than both white and brown rice. Very popular in upscale restaurants, wild rice has a texture and flavor that many people prefer to white and/or brown rice.

Answer to Question 2

Honey can contain C. botulinum spores and has been implicated in infant botulism. Symptoms of infant botulism include constipation, generalized weakness, irritability, and lack of facial expression. The incidence of infant botulism in the United States is approximately 70-90 cases a year. So far, honey is the only food that has been implicated in infant botulism. Adults who ingest C. botulinum spores are rarely affected. However, in infants, an immature gastrointestinal tract allows the spores to germinate and produce the botulinum toxin.
