Answer to Question 1

Homeostasis is the body's attempt to maintain equilibrium. Examples could include
the body's responses to hunger and thirst, regulation of the heart rate when
exercising and at rest, perspiring to cool the body and shivering to warm it, and
breathing deeply during periods of activity.

Answer to Question 2

The three assumptions about the purpose of sex are reproduction, relationship, and
recreation. Emerging adults who believe that the purpose of sex is reproduction tend
to marry young. More women than men hold this belief. Those who believe that the
purpose of sex is to strengthen relationships tend to follow the path of dating, falling
in love, having sex, maybe living together, and marriage. More women than men hold
this belief. Those who believe that the purpose of sex is recreation tend to lack
commitment. More men than women hold this belief.
