Answer to Question 1

Infants typically recognize familiar people at about 3 months of age; babble and
respond to others with facial expressions at about 6 months of age; exhibit strong
attachment to caregivers at about 12 months of age; recognize self in a mirror at
about 18 months of age; and exhibit strong interest in both new experiences and
new children at about 24 months of age.

Answer to Question 2

Stress, mistreatment, mental illness, controlling behavior, and alcoholism are among
parent behaviors that may lead to an insecure attachment. An infant with a difficult
or slow-to-warm-up temperament may develop an insecure attachment. Getting help
with parental behaviors and understanding and guiding the infant patiently and
positively could improve the conditions.

People who have myopia, or nearsightedness, are not able to see objects at a distance but only up close. It occurs when the cornea is either curved too steeply, the eye is too long, or both. This condition is progressive and worsens with time. More than 100 million people in the United States are nearsighted, but only 20% of those are born with the condition. Diet, eye exercise, drug therapy, and corrective lenses can all help manage nearsightedness.
