Answer to Question 1

Section 8(b)(1)(B) protects the employer, not the supervisor, in the selection of representatives for the purpose of collective bargaining or the adjustment of grievances. Moreover, the employers took action because they believed that the union fines would inhibit their ability to recruit qualified supervisors where so many potential supervisory candidates were IBEW members.
