Answer to Question 1

Endometrial ablation is used to treat heavy menstrual bleeding by destroying endometrial tissues using an instrument inserted into the endometrial cavity that destroys the endometrium by heating, freezing, or by high frequency electric current. Other techniques involve the use of a laser or the insertion of a balloon into the endometrial cavity that is filled up with very hot water to destroy endometrial tissue.

Answer to Question 2

Activation of clotting mechanism results in intravascular clotting. Clot formation uses up the platelets and coagulation factors much faster than they can be replenished by the body. Because the fibrinolytic system is also activated at the same time as the coagulation system, it results in the lysis of clots to prevent obstruction of the circulatory system. The degradation products of this lysis further inhibit the clotting process. Because both platelets and coagulation factors are consumed and not replenished fast enough, the net effect is systemic hemorrhage.
