Answer to Question 1

ANS: D
Progesterone is sometimes called the hormone of pregnancy because it relaxes smooth muscle in the myometrium, which prevents premature contractions and helps the uterus to expand. Proges-terone does not stimulate lactation, increase ciliary action in the fallopian tubes, or thin the en-dometrium.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: A
Estrogen, not progesterone, promotes endometrial thickening. Endometrial thickening is not as-sociated with FSH or with inhibin.
