Answer to Question 1

ANS: A
The potential for iron overload exists in people who have adequate iron stores and take supplemental iron. Supplemental iron should only be given to those people who are at risk for or who are iron deficient.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: A
Percent transferrin saturation is calculated by dividing the serum iron by transferrin and multiplying by 100. Thus in the example here,  saturation = (10/490) 100 = 2.
