Answer to Question 1

Students should become familiar with the professional organization(s) representing their specific healthcare career field. Early membership as a student-member is beneficial, as it helps students become more aware of current happenings around the country in their field, and it helps them to be recognized by their externship site staff/manager/doctor(s) as somebody who is serious and attentive to their particular work in the industry. It also is a good addition to students' entry-level resumes.
