Immediate postoperative care of a person who had a total thyroidectomy includes supporting the head with sandbags, and assessing the patient's ability to swallow, and monitoring for bleeding. The patient should be placed in high Fowler position and vital signs should be assessed every 15 minutes.

The Wood light is a specially designed ultraviolet (UV) light source. It is helpful in the diagnosis of fungal infections such as tinea corpus.
