A breast biopsy can be done in one of several different ways:
1. A fine-needle aspiration, which uses a very small gauge needle to aspirate the mass.
2. A vacuum-assisted biopsy, which uses a probe with a cutting device.
3. A surgical incisional biopsy, which is an incision into the tumor with subsequent removal of some, but not all, of the tissue.
4. A surgical excisional biopsy, in which the entire mass is removed.
