The patient presented to the ED with the following complaints: extreme headache, difficulty swallowing, nausea, and impaired coordination. She also complained of excessive thirst. Suspecting the patient may be having a stroke, a STAT MRI was ordered. The MRI showed downward herniation of the cerebellar tonsils consistent with Chiari malformation. The patient is being admitted and will undergo immediate neurosurgery to correct the defect.
