In cystic fibrosis, the bronchioles become clogged with mucus, which results in obstruction of the bronchioles. Obstructive emphysema results as air gets trapped in the alveoli. Atelectasis occurs as small areas of the lungs collapse, which leads to hypertrophy of the right ventricle from overwork.
