An occasional single glass of an alcoholic beverage may not be harmful, but larger amounts may interfere with the milk ejection reflex and may be harmful to the infant. Nursing mothers should avoid appetite suppressants, which may pass into the milk and harm the infant. The long-chain polyunsaturated omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids are present in human milk.
