Opel, the German subsidiary of GM signed a two-year contract to market its automobiles to AOL subscribers in Germany by informing users about Opel and directing them to the Opel web site. This is an example of a marketing alliance. Because AOL is not responsible for selling the cars or transporting the cars to the customer, it is not a distribution alliance.
