In a mixed design factorial ANOVA, the between subjects factor (A) has two levels and the repeated measures factor (B) has three levels. A significant F is found for the main effect of the repeated measures factor. We may conclude that _____.

  a. The means of the levels of Factor B are all different from one another
  b. There is a significant difference in the means for Factor B, but we don't know where
  c. The mean of Factor A is significantly different from the mean of Factor B
  d. The interaction between A and B is significant

Question 2

In a mixed design factorial ANOVA, the between subjects factor (A) has two levels and the repeated measures factor (B) has three levels. A significant F is found for the main effect of the between subjects factor. We may conclude that _____.

  a. the mean of level 1 of factor A is significantly different from the mean of level 2 of Factor A
  b. There is a significant difference, but we don't know where it is.
  c. The mean of Factor A is significantly different from the mean of Factor B
  d. The interaction between Factors A and B is significant.

Answer to Question 1

B
The significant F tells us that there is a significant difference between the means of the three levels of Factor B, but it doesn't tell us which means are different and which means are not.

Answer to Question 2

A
The significant F means that there is a difference between means. Because there are only two levels of Factor A, we know that the means for these two levels must be significantly different.

Every flu season is different, and even healthy people can get extremely sick from the flu, as well as spread it to others. The flu season can begin as early as October and last as late as May. Every person over six months of age should get an annual flu vaccine. The vaccine cannot cause you to get influenza, but in some seasons, may not be completely able to prevent you from acquiring influenza due to changes in causative viruses. The viruses in the flu shot are killed—there is no way they can give you the flu. Minor side effects include soreness, redness, or swelling where the shot was given. It is possible to develop a slight fever, and body aches, but these are simply signs that the body is responding to the vaccine and making itself ready to fight off the influenza virus should you come in contact with it.
