The Industrial Revolution spurred the shift to industrial society. It was one of the most cataclysmic events in history because it caused fundamental changes in how and where people lived their lives. For example, concurrent with the Industrial Revolution, a major shift toward urban living began, and people had to find new ways to make a living.
