Answer to Question 1

B

Answer to Question 2

The common cultural themes of family and marriage are mate selection, descent patterns, inheritance, and authority. Mate selection is either within one's own group (endogamy) or outside the group (exogamy). Patterns of descent can be either patrilineal (based on the father's side of the family), matrilineal (based on the mother's side of the family, or bilineal (based on both the father's and mother's side of the family). Inheritance follows the same patterns as descent. Authority can also be based on a man's dominance (patriarchy), on a woman's dominance (matriarchy), or shared by both the man and woman (egalitarian).

There can actually be a 25-hour time difference between certain locations in the world. The International Date Line passes between the islands of Samoa and American Samoa. It is not a straight line, but "zig-zags" around various island chains. Therefore, Samoa and nearby islands have one date, while American Samoa and nearby islands are one day behind. Daylight saving time is used in some islands, but not in others—further shifting the hours out of sync with natural time.
