First stage. Begins with the onset of regular contractions and ends with full dilation (opening) of the cervix.
Second stage. Begins with the full dilation of the cervix and ends with the delivery of the baby.
Third stage. Begins after the delivery of the baby and ends with the delivery of the placenta.
