Rational persuasion is the use of facts and logical arguments to influence another's behavior. Inspirational appeals attempt to influence others by appealing to the values and ideals of an individual. Collaboration makes it easier for someone to agree to a request. Consultation attempts to involve others in the decision-making or planning process. Ingratiation is influencing behavior by putting the individual in a good mood or getting him or her to like you. Exchange promises some benefit in exchange for compliance. Personal appeal is influencing by appealing to feelings of loyalty or friendship. Coalition building persuades by seeking the assistance of others. Legitimating points out one's authority or verifying that the request is consistent with company policies. Pressuring seeks compliance by demands, threats, or intimidation.
